I can’t think of a better way to start The Social Club off than with a delicious hot chocolate and extremely tasty Cheesecake. Admittedly, one of the challenges of attending this Social Club meeting is to find the right Martha’s Country Bakery. One of our co-group leaders, Juliette Altman, did an excellent job in giving us the exact address, 263 Bedford Ave. in Brooklyn, as well as a picture.
However, there is a Martha’s that is several blocks away from this location, which is not the correct meeting place. It was readily visible when I walked up the subway steps from my L train subway stop where I had to remind myself to not enter at this location (confession time: I have made this mistake at a past group meeting).
As for what we did at this meeting, we met our new co-group leader Frankie Veltri. I also saw a mix of some members who I knew from past Social Club meeting sequences as well as some new members.
We went around the table and introduced ourselves as well as shared our dream vacation spots (mine is Antarctica). We also discussed ideas for future meeting activities (like Dave and Busters, for example). After doing that we played a couple of games. The first game was a game where we picked a card that asked a question of us. Some examples are “what do you consider to be your moral responsibility in the world?","what is something you want to see happen in the future?”, and “what is your favorite hobby?”. We also played a card game called Anarchy Pancakes (a suitable game to play at a bakery being food based). As for the rules, I will admit the game is bit complicated and difficult to explain but you can read all about the rules here: Anarchy Pancakes rules.
Upon conclusion of the meeting, I rode the subway with one of the other group members as part of both of our commutes home before we went our separate ways.
One of my favorite parts of group meetings is that after the meetings, sometimes and coincidentally, I share part of my commute home with other members. This gives me the opportunity to keep socializing with other members so we get to know each other better.
