Magic was in the air for our second group event, The Harry Potter Exhibition, where we got to practice our spell casting. We had several Harry Potter fans in the group (me included). To get in the spirit, I brought a few props to the event including a Marauder’s Map which I drew, a ruler for a wand, and a ball (which I won at a claw machine at Dave and Busters) for the Sorcerer's Stone.Â
We started our journey by choosing which house we wanted to be in (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw) as well as choosing a character we wanted to be. I chose to be Slytherin and Hermione Granger (the house and character can be different). Each exhibit consisted of electronic games that we played and earned points for our house. The points were then added up automatically at the end of the exhibit and displayed on a scoreboard.
After choosing our House, we got to view a short video about Harry Potter (which happened a while ago, so I do not remember the details). After the video, we got to see our names on the Marauder's Map.
The Harry Potter Exhibition consists of displays which contain real props and costumes from the films and descriptions of magical spells cast by the characters in the book and film series. The Harry Potter Exhibition also has many rooms including one which explains in detail information about all 4 Hogwarts houses, one which explains Potions class, and one which explains Defense against the Dark Arts class.
My favorite room consisted of an exhibit which described the Magical Congress of the United States of America.
This exhibit was fun because I got to imagine taking up an imaginary mock role in the Congress. I assigned myself Speaker of the US House of Representatives. I then gave group members the option to join the fictional Congress and the option to choose amongst a list of positions (Senate Majority Leader, for example).
Whether or not you decide to join the group, I highly recommend you visit Harry Potter: The Exhibition. Should you go, I only hope you enjoy the experience as much as I did.
