Life Skills Coach

Position: Life Skills Coach

Status: Part-time with room to grow, 15-20 hrs (W2 employee status); daytime availability required

Location: NYC; primarily in-person

Kate Libby Coaching is an innovative approach to supporting young adults in their pursuit of independence. We provide individualized support services to young adults in numerous areas including executive functioning, social skills, independent living, employment, and education. We work with clients to define their unique version of success. Then we break down the steps to get there through targeted, timely goals and wrap-around support each step of the way.

Our coaches work with a variety of dynamic clients and their families. We specialize in support for young adults with autism or a similar profile. We also recognize that difficulty with “adulting” is not limited to folks with disabilities and provide various levels of support to young adults both with and without clinical diagnoses.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients in person in their homes, out in the community and in the office.

  • Provide consistent individualized coaching to clients via in-person and/or virtual meetings.

  • Assess the needs of each client and work with them to set and track realistic goals.

  • Teach and support skill-building to facilitate goal achievement.

  • Communicate with and respond to clients in a timely and professional manner.

  • Maintain weekly notes on client progress.

  • Participate in bi-weekly individual and monthly group supervision meetings.

  • Invest time and effort in strategizing and/or seeking resources outside of client sessions.

  • Track client hours consistently and accurately.

An ideal candidate will:

  • Have a firm understanding of autism and 2+ years of experience working with neurodiverse clients.

  • Possess a high level of trans competency and experience supporting transgender and gender-nonconforming people.

  • Hold a Bachelor’s in a relevant field; a Master’s in a mental health field is a plus.

  • Be a person of high integrity.

  • Be a creative thinker, open to looking outside the box for new ways to support clients.

  • Possess internal motivation and a strong work ethic.

  • Possess excellent communication skills and be able to engage diverse learners.

  • Practice abundant patience and actively seek to look at situations from multiple perspectives.

  • Value and implement work-life balance and self-care practices.

  • Be comfortable giving and receiving constructive criticism and working with a team to strategize.

  • Take initiative and be comfortable working with little oversight.

  • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Be fully vaccinated, boosted and comfortable wearing a mask when advised by local health officials.

Kate Libby Coaching is a place to grow! We welcome candidates with big ideas who are interested in working collaboratively and thinking outside of the box. You will be challenged to continuously learn and evolve your thinking about people with disabilities, success, and what it means to build a full and rich life, both for your clients and yourself. Applicants are welcome to submit a short (1 min) video in place of a cover letter if desired. Please let us know what interests you about the coaching approach and elaborate on your experience with people with autism.
