You have a story worth telling. KLC Film Lab is a 12-week documentary filmmaking class where you’ll learn how to find it, shape it, and share it—with real filmmaking skills.
The class is open to anyone who wants to learn how to make a documentary film. No prior experience needed. No expensive gear required. Just curiosity, a story, and a phone in your pocket.

What You'll Do
Each session is split into two parts: skillbuilding and making. You’ll learn a new technique, then immediately put it to work. Over 12 weeks, your class will collaborate to produce a short documentary together—from choosing a subject to screening your finished film.

Learn documentary storytelling fundamentals: structure, ethics, and what makes a story compelling

Practice filming, interviewing, and editing using your smartphone and affordable, accessible tools

Develop, produce, and edit footage into a cohesive narrative

Participate in individual and small-group office hours with Stephanie for additional feedback and support

Give and receive constructive feedback in a collaborative, supportive environment

Get an introduction to techniques and workflows used by working documentary filmmakers

Meet neurodivergent guest filmmakers and hear about their paths in the field

Screen your completed documentary at a mini film festival—and celebrate what you made
Technical Skills

Pre-production: developing an idea, planning your shoot, reaching out to subjects

Who This is For
This lab is for adults 18+ who want to tell stories that matter to them. Whether you’re building confidence in visual storytelling or exploring ideas you’ve been holding onto for a while, you’re welcome here.
No experience necessary. All skill levels welcome. KLC Film Lab is open to anyone and is a neuro-affirming space that values different ways of thinking, clear communication, and creative collaboration.

Meet Your Facilitator
Stephanie Strong
Stephanie Strong believes everyone has a dynamic story to share, and she's passionate about supporting others to realize their creative visions. For over 20 years, she has produced, directed, and written documentaries with a focus on promoting understanding and inspiring compassion. Her work has premiered at Sundance and Tribeca Film Festivals and aired on National Geographic, MTV, Investigation Discovery, A&E, Oxygen, VH1, and PBS. She has collaborated with The James Beard Foundation, Condé Nast, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and numerous social justice-centered nonprofits.
Stephanie is also a mentor with Reel Works Teen Filmmaking and the lesser half of a dog therapy team with The Good Dog Foundation. She watches too much TV and drinks too much coffee.
