EXPLORE YOUR WORLD
Explore Your World Hiking Series is an adventure program for adolescents (ages 13-18) where your child will learn outdoor and survival skills. In small groups, participants will plan hiking trips, learn outdoor safety and skills (map reading, first aid, identifying plant and wildlife), explore parks in NYC and participate in hikes in and around the Hudson River Valley. Let the therapeutic beauty of the great outdoors support and teach your child to be adaptable and help them to build the confidence to overcome any obstacle in life.
Location: Central Park and hiking trails in the Hudson River Valley
Learn basic survival/hiking skills
Build confidence and communication skills
Strengthen interpersonal skills
Build executive functioning/organizational skills
Plan hiking trips
Participate in beginner-level hiking trips
The group will follow a 3-week cycle:
week-1: learn and practice a new skill
week-2: review skill, plan and prep hiking trip
week-3: ½-day hiking trip.
Week 1 - Skills: map reading and basic first aid; practice map-reading in Central Park
Week 2 - Review first aid skills, plan trip (materials, dress, travel, time-frame, etc)
Week 3 - Meet and head to hiking location
