1099 Independent Contractor (Far Rockaway, NY)

About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and neuro-affirming Support Staff member to work part-time with an autistic adult client. This position focuses on supporting the client with daily living skills, navigating healthcare appointments, and fostering independence. The role requires a commitment of 10-15 hours per week, with sessions ranging from 3-5 hours. You’ll be visiting the client in their home and community, so comfort working in a home setting and a willingness to commute to Far Rockaway are essential.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as personal care routines, meal preparation, and organization.

  • Support healthcare navigation, including appointment scheduling, coordination, and in-person assistance at appointments as needed.

  • Foster independent living skills, including managing household tasks, budgeting, and time management.

  • Uphold neuro-affirming and trans-affirming practices, respecting the client’s identity and supporting their autonomy.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years working with autistic adults in a neuro-affirming manner.

  • Competencies: Demonstrated commitment to trans-affirming and neuro-affirming practices. Training or experience in these areas is highly preferred.

  • Skills: Knowledge of teaching daily living skills, experience in healthcare navigation, and understanding of support needs for independent living.

  • Transportation: Reliable transportation for weekly commutes to Far Rockaway.

 

Additional Details

  • Position Type: 1099 Contractor (Part-Time)

  • Compensation: $20-30, based on experience

  • Work Environment: In-home support and local community settings
